LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – A teenager was killed and a driver was arrested after an accident Thursday night east of the Las Vegas Strip.
According to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, witness statements and evidence at the scene show that a 2013 Honda motorcycle was traveling east on Sahara Avenue in the left travel lane just after 7:05 p.m. and was approaching the intersection with Van Patten Street.
A 2013 Volkswagen was turning left from northbound Van Patten to westbound Sahara Avenue. The operator of the Honda, later identified as Jvon Williams, 29, of Las Vegas, applied the brakes, and the motorcycle fell to its right side. The Honda motorcycle and the rider continued to slide east and hit the left side of the Volkswagen.
The victim, an 18-year-old male, was transported to Sunrise Hospital but was pronounced dead after arrival.
Williams turned west and drove away from the scene, according to police. He was later found at his address and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and felony hit and run.
This was the 59th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2013, and the second fatality involving a motorcycle operator on Thursday. Jay Corpuz Abalos, 30, of Las Vegas was killed Thursday morning after hitting a car near Desert Inn and Tenaya.
The collision remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
