LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- News 3 has obtained a copy of the traffic study completed this year at a corner where a 14-year-old girl was recently hit and killed.

The Nevada Department of Transportation found at the time Blue Diamond and Cimarron did not warrant a traffic signal. The agency says now it will conduct a formal traffic study. But Gale Lancieri, the woman who requested that study more than a year ago, says that it is one life too late.

Helen Liu was struck and killed and two companions were injured around 9 p.m. Nov. 9 at the intersection in question.

The study shows there were almost 50 accidents at that corner in a five-year span. And of the crash factors, the majority is listed as the driver failed to yield right of way.

As for that formal study, NDOT says it's under way. If any of the nine warrants are met, the agency can get the process started to put in a signal. But that will take time. There are no guarantees, and then there's the question of where to get the funding.
