LAS VEGAS – The Nevada Department of Transportation will implement road restrictions at Mount Charleston to facilitate several projects on State Route 158.

NDOT will conduct blasting operations for an excavating project that includes lengthening and adding a new overlook to the trail on SR158. NDOT will also cut into the face of the mountain on SR158 to create sight lines between oncoming traffic and the nearby parking lot, which is being expanded and widened.

Lane restrictions will be in effect from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

During the restricted periods, SR158 will be closed from the Deer Creek Picnic Area to the intersection of SR156—both the picnic area and SR156 will remain open, and area residents will have access to their homes.

The general public will be able to access the mountain via SR156 (Lee Canyon) and SR157 (Kyle Canyon).

Residents and members of the public desirous of going from Lee Canyon to Kyle Canyon, and vice versa, will have to go down to U.S. 95 to get across the mountain. Motorists can expect long delays. A message board will be put up to alert motorists to the restrictions.

NDOT strives to provide current information about construction schedules and highway and roadway restrictions and closures. Unscheduled restrictions and closures may occur and weather can impact work schedules.
