NOT SOBER NOT SORRY: Some DUI offenders fail to understand reason for panel

Do the State Really think of stopping DUI.......

I really can't fault the offenders here, they are merely taking advantage of a court system that values money over a human life. the courts collect the fees and fines associated with each offender and what incentive does the courts have to place an officer at these Victim impact panels to test and monitor the offenders each and every one of these offenders that show up drunk, high and stoned should be immediately arrested and their DUI charges amended and serve at a minimum 18 months in prison we have got to do something harsh to make these crimes unappealing to would be offenders and once and for all STOP DUI

I was convicted of a DUI-four years ago. I was a habitual. It took one really bad night to change my entire life. I quit drinking and I am very vocal about the dangers of drinking and driving. I was fortunate in my situation. I had a single car accident. No one was hurt. I did my due diligence and met all the court ordered requirements. Tamkkatt1- I am one of those offenders that was impacted by the panel. I was heartbroken and devastated by the stories I heard that night. It changed my entire life for the better. There was a person sitting behind me that night, that joked about how the time they were spending at the panel was taking up their bar time. I was disgusted by that person. I don't think people get it. It's more serious than they can imagine. 12,000 people were arrested for DUI last year. It's a frightening statistic. What scares me more is that there were many more out there on the streets. I am grateful to the arresting officer...to the Coroner's Office and to the Victim Impact Panel. The system worked for me. I just wish it would work for everyone.

Quit babying these people and pull repeat offenders licenses permanently! Enough is enough of the entitled fools endangering other people!

Having been a panelist at Victim Impact Panels here and in Texas after being hit by a drinking driver I do know that the majority of the people sentenced to attend are only doing so because it is court ordered. I always said that if I could just reach one person it would be worth it, and I was lucky enough to reach that one person who actually heard what was being said. I won't give any details except to say that I have stayed in touch with him and his family and he has gone through rehab and has been a drug and alcohol counselor for 20 years now. That is why we, the panelist, put ourselves through the abuse we get from the attendees, why we relive these nightmares on a regular basis, in hopes that one person can not have to endure what we have. for a fee I would be happy to show up and give each person a breathylizer for each meeting. why isnt this being done if it is a requirement for them to show up sober?
