The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has identified the officers involved in Friday’s fatal shooting near the 4000 block of Pennwood Avenue of a man suspected of an attempted homicide.
Officer Joseph E. Parra, 34, has been employed with Metro since May 2007. He is currently assigned to the LVMPD Patrol Division, Bolden Area Command.
Officer Scott A. Thomas, 50, has been employed with the LVMPD since August 1995. He is currently assigned to the LVMPD Robbery / Homicide Bureau; Career Criminal Section.
Both officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this event.
According to a Metro release Friday, the officers were in the area searching for a man wanted in connection with a recent attempted murder.
Officers observed the suspect exit an apartment and walk toward a vehicle parked on Pennwood where he joined an adult male and female. When the officers confronted the trio, the suspect produced a handgun and fired at the officers. Two officers returned fire.
The suspect and the second male were struck by gunfire and transported to an area hospital where the suspect was pronounced deceased. The female received a superficial injury to a lower extremity in the incident. No officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.
