LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The northbound lanes of U.S. 95 are back open after a car chase and an officer-involved shooting shut them down earlier this morning.

It all started about 4 a.m. and ended with the suspect in the hospital after being shot by troopers.

A Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman says troopers tried pulling the suspect over for a traffic violation near Tropicana and Nellis, but he took off.

The chase ended on Jones and U.S. 95.

Troopers say they put out several spike strips, but the man kept driving with flat tires, causing sparks and eventually catching his car on fire.

That's when NHP says the man got out, showed a gun and started running. Earlier, troopers had said the man shot at them and officers returned fire. NHP now says it's unclear if the suspect ever fired his gun.
