NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- It's a district about the size of Alabama, but new Congressman Steven Horsford says he trekked across it to find out what matters to his constituents.

Nevada's newest congressional district -- District 4 -- includes both rural and urban areas.

At his State of the District speech Monday night inside his new office at North Las Vegas City Hall, Horsford said both share similar concerns such as jobs, health care and education.

He says an area where they differ, though, is gun control.

He says those in rural areas depend on guns for protection because police are not always close by. He does think common ground can be reached.

“The common ground is we can remove really these military designed weapons that don't need to be on any street in America and work towards having common sense background checks, making sure we have access to mental health care,” Horsford said.
