LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Making driving safer is becoming more of an issue as we see one fatal wreck after another, just in the past week.

There is an effort out there, to cut down on the number of drivers without a license. There is push for new type of driver’s license.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles released a study that says fatal wrecks were three times more likely to have been caused by unlicensed drivers, and that study suspects many were caused by undocumented immigrants.

Here in Southern Nevada, we did not find hard numbers on undocumented immigrants who are unlicensed, but there is a push to make sure they learn the rules of the road and to be safe.
Celina, of Mexico has been in the United States for 10 years, driving for seven.

She does not have a license and does worry about police pulling her over all the time. But she drives. She says it is necessary.

I have to drive to go to work. I have to take my daughter to school. I have to drive to go to work. I have to take my daughter to school. I have to do my market, a bunch of stuff I have to do. I can't do it without driving,” she said.

Democratic State Senator Mo Denis is pushing for bi-partisan legislation that would grant a driver’s privilege card, also called a DPC. It would allow undocumented immigrants like Celina to drive in the state.

Supporters believe it would also make Nevada highways and streets safer by making undocumented drivers learn the rules of the road.

“This makes it a lot easier for everybody on the road. They know you have a license. You qualified already and you passed the test and you have insurance,” said Miguel Barrientos, Host of “Hoy En Las Vegas” KRLV 1340 AM.

The Department of Public Safety’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System tells us that in 2011, there were 246 fatal wrecks in Nevada, 15 involved unlicensed drivers. Ten of those were in Clark County.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says last year there 18,000 citations for drivers’ license violations.

However, neither agency could further categorize why drivers may not have had licenses.
Trooper Loy Hixson of the Nevada Highway Patrol has been investigating fatal serious wrecks for many years.

“Do individuals need to have a driver’s license to operate a vehicle? Of course legally, yes. We’ve also seen that just having drivers licenses hasn't really made a difference whether a person understands the true responsibility of operating a car, operating a vehicle on the roadway, or other times just being a passenger,” Hixson said.

Unlicensed drivers are out there.

“We're not doing nothing bad we're just, we have to work to live here,” Celina said.

Some have and will be involved in wrecks whether the Driver Privilege Cards are offered or not.

Proposed legislation is still being written and is expected to be introduced this year.

The latest state to tackle this similar issue is Illinois. Its House passed a bill this week.

Great do it! Then we know how many we need to deport Si se pude´- Yes we can deport them! Registering illegals? What a joke, how about the immigration and ICE offices do their job instead of rewarding criminal invaders? Corrupt all the way by corporations that feed off them, and the banks that provide the government assistance cards full of taxpayer money.

Celina is a common criminal. She admits to driving without a driver's license for the past 7 years. She also admits to working in this country, which means that she has likely committed ID theft, document fraud, Social Security fraud, and/or employment (I-9 Form) fraud. I hope that Celina gets deported.

Department of Justice employees tamper with their suspect's automobiles with the intention of causing an accident. Corrupt and stupid is a deadly combination. They have been tampering with my car. In Milpitas as I turned the corner at Calaveras and Park Victoria, two corrupt DEA waiting in the bus stop shot a BB gun at my car. 15 Minutes later, a DEA that was tailing me from a 1980-90s white Dodge pickup shot a BB gun from his moving vehicle at my car as I was merging onto heavy traffic from 880 to 101. The DEA employees in the bus stop are described as Mexican males, short cropped hair about 25-30 years. The driver of the truck is Caucasian. I have seen his truck several times in and around Milpitas. Reason for them harassing me in this way? I called the San Francisco Attorney General's office to complain that the FBI and DEA where fabricating evidence and stealing from me. They also poisoned my dog to death.

Giving valid breeder documents such as driver’s licenses to invaders is insane. Breeder docs open the door to all sorts of nefarious activities these law-breaking parasites can engage in..... credit fraud, mortgage fraud, voting illegally etc…… after all, these border-leaping losers have no respect for US laws to begin with. Practically everything they do is illegal. Giving licenses to these lawbreaking scumbags also a threat to national security. These arrogant miscreants need to be rounded up and deported as the law calls for, not rewarded with privileges. It is also a federal felony to aid and abet these invaders…. See: http://bit.ly/VIz3wa ... not that the exceedingly corrupt and thoroughly loathsome ObaMao regime would give a hoot since they’re all criminals themselves… just like the invaders.

You really have to laugh at this article. Not sure what to do...send their butts back to where ever they came from. Now we call them "undocumented"...call them what they are "ILLEGALS". They break the law by coming here and then they just keep breaking the laws.

I have lived in this state since 1994, I did not get a drivers licence when I moved here, with the public transportation system we have here I felt no need. Sure I have to leave a little earlier, but I get where I am going. There is no reason for people that have licences to drive. What about having to show a valid driver licence when you are buying a car? I remember having to do that, and showing proff of insurance - which you also need a license to get. This is what I don't understand, how are they getting their cars? By the way I work, and I am never late getting there or to appointments. Does it take some pre-planning? Yes. But it is a cop out to say you HAVE to drive to get to work.
