LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – One person is dead after a fire late Wednesday night in a home near the intersection of East Bonanza Road and North Maryland Parkway.
According to a release from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, firefighters arrived on scene just after 11 p.m. in the 600 block of North Ninth Street and found heavy flames coming from the second story of a two-story concrete block building. Because of the intensity of the flames, three nearby houses were evacuated.
Firefighters entered the upstairs apartment and were able to bring the fire under control in 5 minutes. As they were putting the fire out, they discovered an adult person lying on the floor of the bedroom next to the bed.
Damage was confined to the bedroom where the victim was found, it was gutted and to the kitchen of the unit. The downstairs unit had minor water damage. Damage was estimated at $75,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The identity of the deceased victim and cause of death will be determined and released by the Coroner’s office.
Two adults and two children that live in the building were displaced. No other buildings in the area were damaged.
