LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews) -- A pedestrian is hospitalized in critical condition after getting hit by a car around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Palomino Lane and South Rancho Drive.

According to a police report 75-year-old Phillip Marchant of Las Vegas was rushed to University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Police closed down lanes to investigate. Metro says Marchant was trapped under the car before paramedics arrived on scene.

Police say the critical injury traffic collision occurred on Rancho Drive, approximately 8-feet south of Palomino Lane.

According to witness statements and evidence at the scene, a 2005 Kia driven by 71-year-old Gilbert Waltens was westbound on Palomino Lane and stopped in the left turn lane to southbound Rancho Drive.

Marchant was on the southwest corner of Rancho Drive and Palomino Lane. When the westbound traffic signal on Palomino Lane changed to green, the Kia began turning southbound onto Rancho Drive.

Marchant began crossing Rancho Drive, from the west side to the east side, in a marked crosswalk. As Marchant reached the center, southbound, travel lane of Rancho Drive, he was struck by the Kia and dragged underneath.

This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigations Section.

Neither Waltens or his passenger, 68-year-old Benigna Waltens, were hurt and it is unclear who is at fault. Both are also from Las Vegas.

Department of Justice employees tamper with their suspect's automobiles with the intention of causing an accident. Corrupt and stupid is a deadly combination. They have been tampering with my car. They have loosened steering linkages, tampered with seats, put nails in tires, remove wheel weights, loosened lug nuts, disabled seat belt restraints, disabled anti-lock brake systems, stealing wear item parts with parts from personal automobiles(break pads, rotors, tires, etc...)...

When making a left hand turn on a light, it does not mean you drive out to try and beat the light, you must stay behind the limit line until it is safe to make your turn, which includes all pedestrians are clear. Its clear that the Kia was trying to beat the light and did not see the pedestrian but that is not an excuse, know the laws of the road. DO NOT PROCEED BEYOND THE LIMIT LINE UNTIL THE INTERSECTION IS CLEAR OF VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS, its the law.
