HENDERSON, Nev. – A 75-year-old Henderson man was struck and killed by a car while he was attempting to cross Boulder Highway early Tuesday.

The man was struck about 4:35 a.m. Tuesday by a 2002 Acura TL-S driven by Betty Bodell, 79, of Henderson, in a southbound lane of Boulder Highway between College Avenue and Horizon Drive.

The man was not in a marked cross walk and more than 300 feet from the nearest intersection.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

Bodell voluntarily submitted to blood testing but she did not appear to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. A preliminary investigation also indicates that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name after he has been positively identified and his family has been notified.

Boulder Highway was closed for about three and half hours while fatal accident investigators conducted the investigation.

In 2012, 259 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes on Nevada roadways. So far this year, 160 people have died in traffic-related fatalities with 115 of those deaths occurring in Clark County.

There have been three traffic-related fatalities in Henderson this year.

Of the fatalities this year there have been 35 traffic-related pedestrian deaths in the state with 30 of those pedestrian deaths occurring in Clark County.

The man’s death was the first traffic-related pedestrian fatality in Henderson this year.
