LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – One person is dead after a vehicle struck a pedestrian this morning at Blue Diamond Road and Edmond Street, west of Decatur Boulevard.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said the accident occurred just west of the Blue Diamond-Edmond intersection. The victim went across the eastbound lanes on Blue Diamond safely but was struck in the westbound lanes.

The Clark County Coroner has identified the victim as 79-year-old Russell Lake Newell of Las Vegas. The coroner has ruled the cause of death as multiple blunt force trauma and has ruled this an accident.

Newell was not in a crosswalk.

NHP says it is the first fatal investigation in that area. The intersection reopened after 11 a.m.
