The Strip is always crowded, but depending on the section and time you can't move anywhere fast. News 3's Sandra Gonzalez looks at a study released by the county on pedestrian traffic but from a different perspective.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- The Las Vegas Strip is usually busy and, depending on the day and section, it can be hard to move fast on foot.

Clark County released a pedestrian study that identified more than a dozen “choke points” where foot traffic gets extremely packed.

The 190-page study wasn’t needed for John Noble to know there are problems. He pushes his 82-year- old mother around the Strip in her wheelchair and sees lots of problems.

“Sidewalks need to be wider for one, and fix the cracks so the wheels don't get stuck in the ruts, have ramps lined up,” Noble said.

He recently invited Commissioner Chris Guinchigliani to see for herself and she agree for a three-hour tour on a wheelchair. She says it was quite a learning experience.

“This is a rut. This is a broken piece of concrete. This is a crosswalk. This is button that's up this high when it should really be at the ADA compatible so I can hit the traffic light,” Guinchigliani said.

These are just some of the improvements that may be discussed following the extensive study.

Some of the problems noted included people handing out advertising cards, trash cans, signs, and other obstructions.

“The Strip is the ‘jazz’ and we have to make sure they have a good comfortable time as they move down that area whether they are moving on a walk to Bellagio or if they want to go downtown into the Stratosphere,” Guinchigliani said.

Commissioners will absorb the study and are expected to discuss it next month along with recommendations on how to improve pedestrian congestion and safety on the Strip.
