LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Twelve members of a "violent gang" have been arrested since Thursday by various Las Vegas Valley law enforcement officers in what's been called "Operation Wash Out."

In addition, more than 21 pounds of methamphetamine, 25.3 grams of cocaine and 5.6 ounces of marijuana were seized.

Three rifles, including two assault rifles, and three handguns were impounded. Nearly $17,000 in cash was also confiscated.

More arrests are expected, according to a spokesman for Metro, which made the announcement early Saturday afternoon.

The arrests began after undercover officers purchased about five pounds of methamphetamine from suspects near the intersection of East Charleston and Lamb boulevards. Immediately following that event five coordinated search warrants were served at the following locations: the 4200 block of Middlesex Avenue, the 4700 block of Lucite Lane, the 2200 block of Daley Street in North Las Vegas, the 1500 block of South Christy Lane and the 3300 block of South Arville Street.

Arrested on various state narcotics charges were North Las Vegas residents Jorge Alejandro Acosta, 22; Manuel Cardusorafael, 23; Guadalupe Tamayo, 26; Edgar Robles, 24; Roberto Nabarro, aka Jesus Delbalt-Garcia, 29; and Fabian Sarmiento, 19.

Three Las Vegas residents were also arrested. They are Claudia Madrid-Valdez, 30; Lleimmy Madrid-Valdez, 22; and Jonathan Vega, 19.

Three more suspects were also arrested on federal charges.

Information about the suspects arrested on federal charges are yet to be released by the assistant U.S. attorney’s office.

Operation Washout was led by the Clark County Gang Task Force, which is comprised of officers from the LVMPD Gang Crimes Bureau and agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Taking part in the operation were officers and agents from LVMPD, the DEA, the U.S. Marshals Service, NLVPD and Nevada State Parole and Probation.

In college, economics 101, I learned that "where there is a demand, there will be a supply". So why should people's entire lives be ruined simply because they are involved on the supply side of an inevitable reality? Is it really Big Brother's business of grown adults want to poison themselves? Unless there are neglected or abused children involved, or the impaired individuals are behind the wheel, I think not.
