LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it has arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a man Thursday morning outside a convenience store in the 5100 block of East Sahara Avenue.

Metro detectives said numerous tips from the public led them to James Johnson, 20, of Las Vegas. Investigators tracked Johnson to a residence in the 2400 block of Abarth Street in southeast Las Vegas, and around midnight attempted to take him into custody.

When Johnson refused to peacefully exit the residence and surrender, the LVMPD SWAT Team responded to the scene. Crisis Negotiators were successful in securing the suspect’s surrender around 4:20 a.m.

Johnson, who also goes by the street name of “Crazy,” was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, on the charges of murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, battery and coercion.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Anyone with any information concerning this crime is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
