NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Students return to school this morning after the long holiday break.

Police are asking the community to help keep them safe as they cross valley roads.

A back to school pedestrian safety enforcement event took place this morning at Lee Antonello Elementary School, near Tropical Parkway and Hollow Ridge.

Last year, 40 people were killed as they walked across valley roads. That's up from 29 the year before.

What I thought was very upsetting this morning, as we were driving past Lee Antonello, we saw the News 3 van make an illegal u-turn on Tropical Parkway to get to the light. This is the same type of behavior that so many officers are trying to stop near our schools. I can't believe News 3 reported on the incident, then turned right around and contributed to the problem.
