NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Two teenagers are in very critical condition after police say a driver suspected of drinking, using drugs and speeding hit them in North Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon.
The victims, an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, are now in extremely critical condition at UMC’s Trauma Center.
North Las Vegas Police say the driver,19, will be booked on traffic charges related to this crash. They add that a passenger in the car will also face on drug charges and a charge of tampering with evidence.
This dangerous accident is one of the first the Las Vegas valley has seen in 2013 where drugs and alcohol are suspected of being involved.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says between 7 p.m. New Year's Eve and 9 a.m. New Year's Day, it arrested 48 people for driving under the influence.
A trooper says that's down from 55 drivers arrested last New Year's.
Metro says it arrested 10 people for DUI as of 2 a.m. New Year's Day.
And while that number may seem low to some, authorities say it's one too many drivers who could hurt someone on our roads.
