LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- There have been a series of violent attacks on our oldest residents.

There has been a crime spree targeting seniors and is terrorizing communities across the valley News 3's John Treanor talked with one of the victims toda

“I was trying to find out where to get to him but i couldn’t get away from the gun,”said Rudolph Moraga who was robbed inside his own garage.

For Moraga it was that rare combination of anger and terror he hasn't gotten since World War II.

The 87-year-old veteran was coming home from his daily trip to the gym and pulled into his garage. That's when it happened he says.

“After I opened the garage door I came right in just a minute I stopped turned the key off and there’s a gun pointed in my face," Moraga said.

Moraga was attacked and robbed and he also became a statistic in what is a disturbing crime spree here in Las Vegas.

There have been 10 attacks since July fourth with similiar details in which an elderly person is followed home, a gun is pulled, and the victim is robbed.

However, police said the attacks are getting more and more violent.

Moraga wasn’t physically hurt, but he wishes he could have done more it’s just who he is.

In 1945 when he was just 17 he was helping shell Iwo Jima when his aircraft carrier was attacked by kamikaze pilots.

“I was there 15 feet below,” he says.

That day 321 people died. He survived a sunken ship, an explosion and then four hours alone in the ocean in February.

Now he found himself, 70 years later with a gun in his chest and all for a pocketful of cash.

“He was there waiting for me. How long he waited I don’t,” Moraga said.

While the modus operandi is the always the same -- the suspeects follow their victims home and once out of the car the robbery begins.

The police do not who did it and there are no real descriptions. It could be two men or it could be more. All they can do is ask the public to be cautious and call 911 if they are being followed.

The police say while they continue their investigations they will visit neighborhoods that might be targeted and work with elderly residents to make sure they know what to look out for.
