LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Problems at the polls? Not many, according to Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller.
Election Day “has been really smooth,” he said. “We've gotten scattered complaints here and there.”
Complaints on Election Day were immediately investigated, Miller said.
“We've sent investigators out on a couple of goose chases, reported claims of intimidation or irregularities at the polling location, but when they got there, they couldn't find anything that mattered,” he said.
Miller said most claims of voter intimidation turned out to be small arguments between voters from opposing parties.
Other problems included three voting machines that malfunctioned but were fixed, a campaign sign possibly too close to a polling entrance and an Elko voter frustrated his registration was canceled.
That cancellation was found to be justified, according to the elections office.
Long lines at polls in Washoe County also affected voters.
According to a Nevada Secretary of State spokeswoman, polls there were kept open after the 7 p.m. deadline because people were still waiting in line to vote.
But the Nevada Secretary of State’s work does not end election night.
“We have several investigations that are in place related to early voting,” Miller said.
Those early voting investigations include another case of someone possibly trying to vote twice.
“We don't take those cases lightly,” Miller said. “If you take somebody's vote, you've taken their liberty.”
FBI agents arrested Roxanne Rubin on Friday for allegedly trying to cast two ballots, one in Henderson followed by another in Las Vegas.
