LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3.com) -- Watching their wallets, shoppers filled Las Vegas area malls and stores this weekend in order to fulfill their Christmas shopping lists.

The Meadow Mall was packed for last-minute Christmas shopping. Retailers put up signs with huge discounts to lure in crowds to buy everything from jewelry to handbags. Families were everywhere, making shopping a holiday experience.

While nationally, people are paying attention to the economy as the government is dealing with the fiscal cliff situation, local families are coping with the foreclosure crisis. However if spending at Meadow is any indicator of a financial trend, spending may be slightly up, according to the mall manager.

Fashion Show Mall and The Galleria in Henderson also reported throngs of shoppers today with many stores planning to stay open as late as midnight -- and a few planning to keep their doors open 24 hours a day until late Christmas Eve. Macy's, Kohl's and Toys r Us are among retailers planning to stay open all weekend until closing at 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Nationally, many malls reported lighter-than-usual crowds Saturday, but experts said shoppers may be waiting until the last day or two. Christmas falls on Tuesday this year, giving shoppers today and Monday to finish their buying efforts. Last year Christmas was on a Monday.

An Reuters/IPSOS poll conducted late this week said 60 percent of Americans had completed their shopping by Thursday, but that would leave more than 100 million of us still waiting to make purchases.
