LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- Junior guard Tony Snell put on an offensive clinic during the second half as the New Mexico Lobos held off UNLV for a 63-56 win to secure the Mountain West Conference basketball title Saturday afternoon.

Snell scored 13 straight points during the second half as top-seeded New Mexico followed its regular-season title with three convincing triumphs to win the tournament at UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.

Snell hit three-pointers from several spots down the stretch as the Lobos, ranked 15th in the nation, rallied to the victory after a seven-minute scoreless stretch in the middle of the second half. He finished as the high scorer with 21 points.

Bryce DeJean-Jones scored eight straight UNLV points to get the Rebels even at 44-44 with 12:41 to play before Snell got hot and opened up a 10-point lead late in the game before UNLV narrowed the deficit. DeJean-Jones led the Rebels with 19 points.

New Mexico will likely get a high seed in the NCAA tournament when pairings are announced Sunday afternoon.

The Rebels will likely be invited to the tourney as well. Experts feel up to five Mountain West teams will be invited to the March Madness field.
