LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- One lane along a four-mile stretch of Kyle Canyon Road will shut down starting Wednesday through late next year while crews widen and improve the street.

Kyle Canyon Road will be reduced to one lane between mile markers 3.5 and 5.5 starting at 6:30 a.m., according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. The project will be finished in late 2014.

As part of the project, about 17 miles of road shoulder/bike lanes, two roundabouts to Kyle Canyon Road and an additional roundabout to Lee Canyon Road will be added.

Kyle Canyon Road is a major corridor for about 400 residents in the Mount Charleston, Rainbow and Echo subdivisions and businesses in upper Kyle Canyon.

The road is also a designated Forest Highway, serving as a primary route for visitors to the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area and the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
