Suspect critically wounded while fleeing from Metro officer

LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- A suspect in a December armed robbery was in critical condition this morning after shooting at and being shot by a Metro officer shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday near North 12th Street.

The man was last reported to be in critical condition at UMC Trauma.

Metro said in a news release that shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday Metro patrol officers were checking on a suspicious vehicle parked in the 2100 block of Sunrise Avenue. As officers approached the vehicle they recognized one of the occupants as a suspect in a Dec. 29 robbery in which the victim was shot.

The names of the suspects were released Monday night.

The suspect shot by an LVMPD officer during this crime has been identified as Brandon Joseph Ogonowski, 28, of Las Vegas.

Ogonowski remains hospitalized, and has been booked in absentia for attempted murder of a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a police officer with a deadly weapon, felony evading, burglary [previous warrant], and Possession of stolen property [previous warrant].

Ogonowski remains hospitalized but a previous booking photograph was released by police.

Also arrested in connection with this crime was Christina Harrington, 24, of Las Vegas.

Harrington, who was in the vehicle which fled from police, fled on foot along with Ogonowski after the vehicle came to a stop.

Harrington has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges stemming from the December 29, 2013 robbery includding robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, and grand larceny auto.

As the officers removed the occupants, the vehicle fled the scene. A short pursuit ensued until the vehicle stopped in the 600 block of North 12th Street where a man and a woman fled in different directions.

As arriving officers attempted to take the suspects into custody, the Ogonowski fired multiple rounds from a handgun, according to Metro. One officer returned fire, striking and injuring the suspect. V was taken to UMC for treatment. No Metro officers were injured.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on routine paid administrative leave. His name will be released after 48 hours following Metro's standard procedures.

The identity of the suspect was immediately released because of the ongoing investigation into the Dec. 29 armed robbery.
