Amazing..yes the man is hispanic. Yet people jump on this as though he is automatically an illegal immigrant? Why are you so dilusional as to think just because...forget it. Too moronic to look at the fact that not all mexicans who commit crime are here illegaly. But hey go ahead and assume. So the nutjob that killed those people in the movie theater and the school, they're what race again? Yes illegal immigrants are the plight of our country..ever eat a strawberry, apple, orange, or any fruit because most likely you are eating from the hands of a dirty illegal mexican...oh no!!! As far as gun control. I've heard Sweden has a gun in every home, as a matter of fact they are assigned by the government, socialist government by the way. All we have to do is do that they do..make every 18 year old person serve in the military for 2 years where they get trained and disciplined. Then you can have your 1 gun assigned to you. So everyone knows that if you break into a home, there is a trained person ready to kill you on the other side of that door. Sounds fair.

@Sageobasin - You miss the point. We DID NOT cut drunk driving deaths by banning automobiles of ANY type. It was done by strictly and firmly enforcing laws that were already on the books. History has shown us in many cases where registering firearms was soon followed by government takeovers of citizens lives and mass executions of "undesirables". Do you honestly think that any of the people in THOSE societies thought that their government would ever turn on them? Allowing the government to know which citizens are legally armed will only make it easier for them to slowly thin out the ranks of those who can resist.

In EVERY instance of a government registering formerly legally owned firearms in history, those lists were used within a few years to 20 years to confiscate said firearms. This is a FACT. In ALMOST every country in which the firearms were denied to it's citizens, MASS NUMBERS of said citizens were either butchered or enslaved. FACT. If you don't think that our country can't slide into a grand version of Beirut, Lebanon or Sarajevo, Yugoslavia then you really need to understand how societies can and do disintegrate and the rapidity of events once they start. Think about the Rodney King Riots, the Watts Riots, the post Katrina debacle, and then try to be honest enough with yourself to realize that civilization IS a very thin veneer that is easily torn apart. Once that happens to an unarmed society, they are at the mercy of whoever has the guns. If YOU want to post a sign on your front yard that your property is a gun free zone, please, be my guest. However, don't expect me to help you when you need help. As a former sheriffs deputy and Navy officer in the NAVSPECWAR community I'll be happy to try to explain to you that when you seek help, and seconds count, help is usually a minutes or hours away UNDER THE BEST OF CIRCUMSTANCES. If circumstances are less than optimum (think Katrina or Rodney King or Watts for example) you will NOT be getting ANY outside help ANY time soon. If you believe otherwise, I feel sorry for you, you are a victim waiting to happen. If YOU believe that banning a gun based on its appearance, registering guns, banning a magazine for having too many rounds in it is going to stop CRIMINALS from using them, you are delusional. If on the other hand, you take the time and effort to truly dig into history and into the results of so called "reasonable" gun control efforts, you'll find that gun control doesn't equal crime control. It just makes people more vulnerable to criminals and to despots in government.

The exaggerated delusional and pernicious characterization of gun control and immigration offered in some of these posts is the problem. No one has suggested banning gun ownership. The proposed law wouuld require universal registering, background checks. Would like to see changes in the law to allow enforcement by ATF! If guns don't kill people, people kill people, then cars don't kill people, drunk or otherwise "disturbed" drivers kill people. We cut drunk driving death rates dramatically. How about we license gun owners (renewable every 5 years), register guns every 5 years or so; require reporting of proper documentation of licensing and registration for all sales or transfers of possesion of each gun. Also require liability insurance for each owner just in case of accidental discharge, bad judgement in shooting which causes injury to property or person. And in the event of a improperly secured gun which is stolen, liability insurance to cover costs of injuries by criminals lacking proper registration, licensure and insurance (uninsured shooter). Our insurance companies will love it and like Sayhey recommends, extreme penalties for violations of reasonable gun laws...no trial just the evidence and sentencing.

Thank god he had a gun and knew how to use it. The other two should be charged with murder and spend the rest of their miserable lives behind bars somwhere in "Latin" America and off the American public's dime.
