LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- It's been years in the making, but the big day for the new Discovery Children's Museum finally arrived.

The museum is double the size of the old museum and held a grand opening on Saturday, March 9 that brought out thousands of people.

The doors opened to a line stretched around the building.

"It's awesome," said one of the children in line.

The new Discovery Children's Museum greeted 1,500 people within the first 45 minutes.

Like Christmas morning, kids couldn't wait to see what was inside.

“When I first walked in, i was like holy cow,” said Jacob Blair.

In all, there are nine exhibits and three floors of fun, creativity and hands-on learning.

Our first stop was Water World where we found the Meyer family getting suited up to get wet.

Young Courtney watched as her parents stopped to put on raincoats for part of the exhibit.

The family was all in helping Courtney who wants to be a scientist and learn about the power of water.

She was not alone as there were plenty of other young, inquisitive minds.

"It's like a real tornado but water-kind.” said Jacob Blair. “It's cool and I want to know how that is.”

Next on the tour is the fantasy festival from pirate ships to castles. It's where imaginations really take flight.

Kids get to run the show, quite literally, from lights and sound to dressing up and playing parts. It's where budding careers in the performing arts might get their start.

Here we find young tour guide Ainsley Fink showing her new friend Ryen Reed around.

"I was like, I need to go through this museum right now," she said.

Kids role play working jobs from Jamba Juice to animal clinics while learning the value of money and budgeting at the local bank.

The eco-friendly theme is tied in throughout the city. The hands-on lessons for kids to learn alongside their parents are endless.

For the older kids, there's even a mystery-themed exhibit where they learn the tools of investigating, lab work and digging for clues.

At the new Discovery Children's Museum, science, art and culture come together to create unique learning experiences and it doesn't hurt kids get to have a lot of fun in the process.
