There is a bright spot for people looking for work, even if it's only temporary. Seasonal hiring is well underway in Las Vegas with the holiday season right around the corner. Here's more from News 3's Sandra Gonzalez.

LAS VEGAS -- If you are looking for work, some good news thanks to the holidays. Season hiring is underway in the Las Vegas, not just at big box retailers, but at smaller stores and even pop-up shops only open because of the holidays.

Beth Tom left corporate America and Hawaii to come to Nevada and open up ‘Santa’s Wrap’, a temporary store in “The District” in Green Valley Ranch. The store opens Thursday to sell Christmas and some Halloween items. And they are hiring.

“We would love to find a personable people that are great at customer service that have a passion for Halloween and Christmas and just enjoy their work,” Tom said.

Not only would they be giving people jobs, they would train them possibly to open their own stores.

“If it works we will do this every season with the possibility of taking other people like ourselves that are unemployed and giving them the opportunity to open up their own “Santa's Wrap” and hire their own staff,” Tom said.

The Retail Association of Nevada says seasonal hiring is up 36 percent from last year, and that there is even better news in some cases.

“15 percent of everyone who is employed during the holiday season ends up going to work fulltime and so that's a great opportunity to work through the holiday season and heed some of those concerns but be able to build that into something long term,” said Bryan Wachter of RAN.

Meanwhile, other holiday stores like ‘Black Cat Costumes’ are open all year long, but it’s also hiring extra help for Halloween. You don’t even have to be yourself.

“We have a lot of fun here. we look for people who want to embrace the holiday and we dress up in October, so we're looking for people who do like to have a lot of fun and are fans of Halloween,” said owner Michelle Pignatello.
