Following the inauguration of President Obama began a year filled with more shootings, court appearances, and explosions. Here are some of the top headlines from the past year.

Some of the stories making headlines include the Los Angeles manhunt for an accused cop killer.

Investigators searched through a burned out cabin where it's believed ChristopherDorner spent his final moments alive.

President Obama failed to win the gun control he fought for after the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre.

In Texas, rescue crews searched for survivors after the massive explosion at a fertilizer plant. Camera's were rolling and captured the power of the blast as it happened.

Missing women found in Cleveland and when police arrived, a decade of imprisonment for Amanda Berry, Gina Dejesus, and Michelle Knight, was over.

More than 50 dead and hundreds were injured in the midwest as a massive twister on the ground for close to an hour, ripped through central Oklahoma.

In Yarnell, Ariz., 19 members of an elite hotshot wildfire crew died when a wall of flames overtook the group.

In December, South Africans are celebrating the life and mourning the loss of Nelson Mandela.
