NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Two men were killed Friday evening in separate traffic accidents in North Las Vegas in a span of less than two hours, and police say both accidents involved alcohol.
The first was a two-car accident about 5:35 p.m. on Craig Road and Home Depot Drive just east of Martin Luther King Boulevard. Arriving officers found an unresponsive man trapped in a Ford sedan that had struck a light pole. Medical personnel pronounced James Williams, 53, of Las Vegas dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation showed that the sedan, driven by a 54-year-old man, was traveling east on Craig Road and slowed to make a right-hand turn into the shopping center when a Hyundai driven by 27-year-old Courtney Hildinger rear-ended the Ford, causing it to strike the light pole. Hildinger was not injured, but she was arrested and booked on one felony count of DUI resulting in death.
The second accident occurred about 7:20 p.m. in the 4900 block of Cheyenne Road between Rancho and Decatur Boulevard.
Arriving officers found a 55-year-old man unresponsive in the road. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. He was identified today by the Clark County coroner's office as 55-year-old Robin Keith Janet of North Las Vegas.
Witnesses said that several cars in both the west and eastbound lanes had to swerve or brake to avoid hitting the man. He was hit by a KIA SUV traveling eastbound on Cheyenne Road. The 23-year-old woman driver was not injured and police said they did not expect to charge her in the accident.
The accidents were the third and fourth fatalities handled by North Las Vegas police this year.
