LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Two people are in custody after police say they tried to escape from marijuana grow house when an unknown substance inside kept SWAT officers from getting inside.

They had to send a robot in to make sure it was safe first.

This started around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when police tried to serve a search warrant at a home near Desert Inn and Fort Apache.

Police are only calling this an unknown irritant. They don't know if it was a chemical odor or some kind of gas but did say it caused SWAT members to start coughing.

Officers wore protective gear and had to undergo a decontamination process after coming out.

Investigators say this was an extensive grow operation and add that even more dangers to the public could be uncovered.
