LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- Firefighters discovered a marijuana grow house with more than $100,000 worth of marijuana plants Wednesday afternoon while fighting a house fire.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue and Clark County Fire responded to the fire at about 12:19 p.m. at 3013 Old Salt Circle, near Lake South Drive and Fort Apache Road, according to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski. He said firefighters found a trash can in the backyard on fire.

Flames also burned part of the back wall of the residence. Szymanski did not have a damage estimate.

Firefighters entered the home looking for occupants but instead found a marijuana grow operation on the top floor, Metro Police Narcotics Lt. Laz Chavez said.

Metro Police arrived with a search warrant and removed more than 40 marijuana plants along with an unknown amount of harvested marijuana prepared for sale, Chavez said. Police also removed scales and packing, which Chavez said indicates the person planned to sell the drugs.

The home is rented out to an occupant, Chavez said.
No arrests have been made, but police are still investigating the grow house, Chavez said.
