LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Friends and family are holding a candlelight vigil this evening for a 21-year-old woman in critical condition as well as a coma at UMC Hospital.

Anne-Monique Lippitt of Las Vegas was injured Oct. 11 in a car accident between Cedar City and St. George, Utah. Her 16-year-old brother was driving a vehicle in a heavy rainstorm when they came over a hill and could not stop in time to avoid an accident that had happened minutes before. They struck the rear of a semi and a guardrail.

Lippitt suffered a brain injury, four fractured ribs, a punctured lung and facial injuries. Her brother suffered a few broken bones. Lippitt was airlifted to UMC and has been in critical condition since. She has been in a coma for several days, and had surgery to remove part of her skull because her brain was swelling.

About 100 people were at the vigil is to show support and encouragement for her healing, said her sister, Savannah Lippitt, who indicated that her sister showed a positive sign Sunday with some voluntary movement in one arm.

"Saturday was a bad day because she only made involuntary movements and laid in bed with her eyes open and not making any eye movement," Savannah said. "Today was much better and I need to share that at the vigil tonight."

Lippitt graduated from Spring Valley High School in 2010 and attended UNLV for two years before transferring to Southern Utah University in Cedar City this fall.

Lippitt had the rare honor of being Student Council president all four years at Spring Valley as well as being the school's television anchor for all four years. She served on the spirit team Blue Crew as well.

More details about the accident and recover can be found on Facebook at the Anne-Monique Lippitt Get Well page.
