LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas Sun) -- Wet ‘n’ Wild, the Las Vegas water park due to open in May, has announced the winner of its wave pool naming contest.

Ted Stringer submitted the winning suggestion of “Red Rock Bay,” which garnered the most votes from the public. Stringer wins special passes and a “VIP experience” for his family on opening weekend.

More than 2,300 people voted on the five finalists, which were selected from more than 1,400 submissions between Dec. 20 and Jan. 13., according to Wet ‘n’ Wild.

“The Ragin’ Rebel,” submitted by Jackie Galaza, had been in first place, but a late surge in voting propelled “Red Rock Bay” to victory.

Rounding out the top five were “Neon Beach,” submitted by Robyn Young, “Mojave Monsoon,” from Scott Berard, and “Cactus Curl” from Dean Lamanna.

The four finalists will receive a pair of single-day admission tickets to the park.

The wave pool, one of 25 slides and other attractions at the 41-acre, $50-million park, will produce 3-foot swells that guests can bodysurf or ride in a tube. There will also be gentle, rolling waves in the shallow end.

Wet ‘n’ Wild, near I-215 and Sunset Road, is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend.
