LAS VEGAS -- A Metro officer is credited with pulling a woman from an outside warming fire which spread to a vacant house in west Las Vegas early Thursday morning. No one was injured during the incident.

A Metro officer was on patrol in the area of Adams and F Street when he noticed a fire on the outside of a house in the 1000 block of F Street. The fire was located under a carport of the house and winds were fanning the flames against the wall of the house. He also noticed there was a woman under some blankets next to the fire who appeared to be intoxicated. He pulled the woman from the fire and returned with a fire extinguisher in an attempt to put the fire out, but it was too intense at the time.

Fire dispatchers were notified at 4:13 a.m. of the fire and on arrival firefighters found the wind had pushed the fire into the attic area of the one story wood frame house. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The house appears to be vacant. There were bars on all the windows and doors, but fire investigators said the house was full of debris and some furniture, but it did not appear anyone was living in the house.

Fire investigators believe the woman, who is homeless, was using the carport as a shelter and had a small warming fire going. Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph pushed the fire against the wall and into some debris under the carport which spread to the house.

The attic and carport area of the house was damaged. Damage was estimated at $40,000.
