LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Every year officers respond to more than 5,000 animal cruelty calls in southern Nevada. But a new campaign aims to change things.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson today is launching a new campaign.

This comes on the heels of the guilty plea Wednesday of 24-year old Justin Teixeira, who admitted his role in the death of Turk, a helmeted guinea fowl that lived at the Flamingo in October.

In a cell phone video obtained by prosecutors, Teixiera’s friends are heard laughing and egging him on. The video ends before prosecutors say he decapitated the animal.
