CARSON CITY (KSNV MyNews3) -- The Nevada Assembly says it needs more time before taking a vote on Assemblyman Steven Brooks.

A seven-member committee recommended expulsion late Tuesday night.

The Nevada Assembly says it's important they get more details on the evidence that led to the Select Committee's decision.

“This is a big step, a tough step, but it's important we give people the time to do what's right and we give them the ability to feel comfortable with their decision,” said Assembly Majority Leader William Horne, D-Las Vegas.

Democratic leaders met behind closed doors for more than 90 minutes Wednesday night considering Brooks' future with the Assembly.

While lawmakers will receive additional information, the investigative report cannot be fully released.

The independent counsel behind the report points to medical records, police investigation information and witnesses promised confidentiality.

Brooks remains on administrative leave and is banned from the Legislative Building.

His attorney, Mitch Posin, is fighting the ban in the Nevada Supreme Court.

It would take a two-thirds majority for Brooks to be expelled.
