LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Students will return to Rundle Elementary today after a broken air conditioning system sent them home early Monday.

But the Clark County School District says A/Cs could break at other schools this summer.

Some of those schools are more than 50 years old, and the School District says it doesn't have the funds for the repairs.

In November, the district asked voters to approve a property tax which would pay for school repairs, but voters turned it down.

The School District does have a repair budget but says it's small.

“We do have a lot of older schools. A lot of them are in need of replacements, and right now the school district just doesn't have the money to do so,” said CCSD spokeswoman Melinda Malone. “So we're doing the best that we can by keeping up with maintenance and repairing them right away. We definitely want our kids and staff in comfortable learning environments.”

So here's what parents need to know if the A/C breaks at your child's school.

If it gets too hot at the school, the district will use Parent Link to send you an automated voice message, letting you know you can pick up your child early.

You need to bring a photo ID.

If you can't get there, your child will go to the coolest room possible until either you or a bus takes your child home.
