LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – Two people are dead and one person is in custody after a crash this morning on Desert Inn near Paradise.
According to Metro, two vehicles were traveling westbound on Desert Inn just after 1:10 a.m. when they collided. A 2001 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab Pickup hit the jersey wall and was then launched onto a church property. Both occupants of the Dodge were killed at the scene.
Witness statements and evidence at the scene indicate a 1998 Mercedes Benz C320 was westbound Desert Inn Road in the left of three travel lanes near the intersection of Channel 8 Drive.
A 2001 Dodge Dakota Crew Cab pickup was westbound on Desert Inn Road in the center lane to the right side of the Mercedes Benz. The Mercedes Benz failed to maintain the travel lane resulting in an impact with the Dodge Dakota.
The Dodge Dakota ran off the right side of the road, rolled over the driver's side and struck a fully-grown palm tree crushing the occupants inside the vehicle.
After the impact, the Mercedes Benz continued westbound on Desert Inn and struck the raised concrete center barrier.
The impact with the barrier disabled both of the tires on the left side of the Mercedes Benz and it was forced to a stop in the left travel lane of Desert Inn Road.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz, later identified as Hans Bludau, 24, of Las Vegas, then fled the scene on foot.
Las Vegas Metro Patrol officers located Bludau at an area hotel during follow up investigation.
Both occupants of the Dodge Dakota were pronounced dead at the scene by a responding Coroner's Investigator.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center for Felony Hit and Run and Felony DUI.
These are the 73rd and 74th traffic related fatalities in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2013. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD Accident Investigation Section.
