LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Local dreamers Thursday celebrated the one-year anniversary of deferred actions, also known as the DREAM Act.

Dreamers and their supporters came together to reflect on the plan that gave young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. by their parents a chance to apply for a workers permit, driver’s license and a Social Security card.

One dreamer -- Juan Salazar -- got his driver’s license this year and through deferred action he was able to start a business with his dad. He says he's learned not to take things for granted.

“I’m always thankful,” he said. “There are many other dreamers that I know that, if you give them an opportunity, they won’t take it for granted because we know opportunities do not come to us very often.”

Across this country, there are 11 million undocumented immigrants.
