LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- The Salvation Army and Catholic Charities are in need of donations for the holidays as both are seeing double the number of families and individuals coming to their food pantries.

Catholic Charities, which now sees nearly 300 individuals a day, has many empty shelves. A spokesperson says they are short about 1,000 turkeys to hand out to families so they can prepare a meal for the holiday.

The Salvation Army is also seeing an increase of families.

Matt Muldoon with Three Square Food Bank says some families are also seeking extra help after cuts in their food stamp benefits as a family of four now gets $36 less.

You can help by donating cash or by dropping off turkeys or non-perishable items to any of the organizations.
