Q: Is plastic surgery dangerous?A: First and foremost, it is very important to make sure that your doctor is qualified as a Plastic Surgeon. All Plastic Surgeons can do "cosmetic surgery" but not all people who call themselves "cosmetic surgeons" are actually Plastic Surgeons. For your safety, it is important to understand this.
Second, every surgery has risks. Some are general risks like bleeding, scarring, infection, wound healing problems, and potential anesthesia complications. Each procedure has it's own specific risks. Sometimes multiple procedures are done at the same time and this can affect risk as well.
Lastly, every patient is different and may have risk factors making surgery less safe for them, or making it more likely that they will have a complication. For example smokers and diabetics often have more complications. Not everyone is a candidate for every surgery. To find out your if you are a candidate for a specific surgical procedure, it is important to have a consultation with a plastic surgeon.
