A Pahrump man is in custody after Nye County detectives say an attempt to collect a drug debt evolved into a shooting.
Nikita Trance Wright, 26, faces charges of discharging a gun, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by prohibited person.
According to a news release from the Nye County Sheriff’s office, deputies responded at approximately 9 p.m. May 5 to the area of Potro and Bourbon for a report of a shooting. Callers reported that there was an argument and then someone yelled gun and two shots were fired. They reported a vehicle then sped off. Deputies recovered bullet casings from the area.
On May 7, NCSO Detectives and Deputies responded to Wright’s residence and made contact with him. During the interview it was identified that Wright had a drug debt that was due and had fired the rounds as a “warning” while attempting to collect on the debt. Wright was arrested and was transported to the Nye County Detention Center.
NCSO Detectives are still investigating this incident as it is believed additional people were witnesses and that there may be others involved.
