LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Today's Rip-Off Alert highlights a banner year for the Better Business Bureau.
The consumer protection organization set records in 2012, including the amount of inquiries and complaints received.
These are the industries southern Nevadans complained about the most: payday loans (745); credit cards and plans (654); Internet shopping (441); auto repair and service (392); and collection agencies (351).
Nationally, total instances of service (online and in person) topped 180 million, up from 142.5 million in 2011, a 27 percent increase.
"These numbers confirm BBB's leadership in helping consumers make smarter buying decisions," said Katie Robison, spokesperson for BBB serving Southern Nevada. "They demonstrate the trust that consumers place in us to give them good information, to steer them toward good businesses and away from bad ones, and to help them resolve problems when they arise.
“It's gratifying as we enter our second century to know that our brand is more relevant than ever."
