LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- This is a Rip-Off Alert for those looking for romance. A scam called “sextortion” is hitting those looking for love on social media and dating websites.

Here's information from the Internet Crime Complaint Center:

After a relationship begins online, victims are enticed to expose themselves in compromising situations in video chat rooms. Those images are secretly recorded. Suspects threaten to broadcast those videos unless money -- anywhere from $50 to $300 -- is wired.

Don't let this happen to you: Authorities say be on guard, especially with information and photos shared online and call law enforcement if you're receiving threats.

A complaint with IC3 can be filed online here.
