LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- For those who want to open a medical marijuana lab in unincorporated Clark County the deadline to apply was 5 p.m. Friday.

As of 4 p.m. four applications for a marijuana lab had been submitted.

G3 labs is the one of the labs that reapplied after having it application disqualified the first time around. For those who want to open a medical marijuana lab in unincorporated Clark County the deadline to apply was 5 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014.

Before medical marijuana can go on sale at a dispensary it needs to be tested. Medical marijuana advocate Vicki Higgins says these labs are critical.

"Medicine can't be moved across state lines but there's an issue with that you cannot take it across state lines therefore have to have labs in Nevada, Higgins said.

On Friday a handfull of lab applications were submitted to Clark County.

The original deadline was extended after the only application for a lab the first time around was disqualified because the proposed location was too close to a school.

"The fact is we need these labs before we can open any of these establishments as there is a requirement for this to be tested for medals and pesticides and other things," Higgins said.

That group, G3, submitted a new application with a new location.

It doesn't mean their application, or any of them for that matter, will get approved.

"There are unscrupulous people out there who might use things to assist in the growth as far as volume or potency that will cause problems for a patient. and being that this is a medicine it's important that it's tested," Higgins said.

The commissioners will have to figure out which applications to approve and if locals should be given priority. The commission will hold public hearings discussing all that on June 5.
