LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- There are new developments in the push to get medical marijuana dispensaries up and running in Nevada.

State regulations got the green light and health officials also heard from the public including the possibility to unionize future Nevada medical marijuana workers.

It was an attentive, shoulder-to-shoulder crowd Friday morning, as Nevada rounds the home stretch to kick start the medical marijuana industry.

State public health administrators approved distribution regulations.

It now heads to the legislative commission.

Today's public hearing also addressed an interest to unionize future Nevada cannabis workers.

"I don't think that cannabis is any different than any of the other industries we work in,” said Dan Rush the director for the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.

Rush says although their members are primarily in the grocery and retail industry UFCW also currently represents cannabis workers across six states and the District of Columbia.

According to state law, Nevada has until April 1 to approve its regulations. Clark County is scheduled to vote on its own rules and regulations for medical marijuana on Wednesday.
