BUENA VISTA, Colo. (AP)- A suspected explosive device found in the back of a pickup at a Colorado mining town on Tuesday was a false alarm, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff.

Sheriff Pete Palmer said that the object was either a practice military shell or a replica of a military shell wired to a cellphone.

According to ABC News, the device was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for analysis at the agency's laboratory in nearby Colorado Springs.

The device was discovered by a member of the Buena Vista library's maintenance staff. It was in the back of her pickup Tuesday morning, while the truck was parked downtown between the library and police station, Palmer said.

Palmer said the woman was not aware with how the device got into the bed of her truck.
