CARSON CITY (KSNV & MyNews3) -- With exactly three weeks left in the 2013 legislative session, lawmakers are scrambling.

Today Democrats announced the second part to their tax plan. News 3's capitol correspondent Mackenzie Warren is asking the Democrats if this tax will stick.

Truth is they have 21 days left and this is a tax which means they'll be hard-pressed getting the four Republican votes they'll need, not to mention the support of Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval who has already said "no new taxes."

One vote Democrats can most certainly kiss goodbye is that of senate minority leader Michael Roberson.

Roberson blasted the majority party's tax plan on the floor of the senate today.

“The majority party has once again waited until the last possible minute to reveal their plan to impose job killing taxes on Nevada families and businesses," said Senate Minority leader Michael Roberson (R-Henderson) "I’ve seen this movie before I know how it's going to end.”

That's the Republican side of all this. Today the Democrats released their plan to increase the payroll tax on Nevada businesses.

Mining companies and financial institutions will see the highest increase if it passes.

Democratic senate majority leader Mo Denis says businesses don't feel attacked under this plan but they'd be willing to pay more for Nevada's kids.
