CARSON CITY (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- After state lawmakers missed their midnight deadline on several key bills, Gov. Brian Sandoval told them they couldn't go home just yet.

Once they got back to work, legislators moved quickly.

They passed five bills through the Senate and Assembly in less than two hours, a pace they were never able to reach during the 120 days of the regular session.

The biggest of those bills was the one nicknamed “more cops,” authorizing the Clark County Commission to raise the sales tax by 0.15 percent to raise money for Metro and other southern Nevada police departments.

Lawmakers almost pulled off a buzzer beater Monday night as the assembly was trying to rush a vote on that bill.

But they just missed, and the governor decided to use his power to give them another shot.
