(KCRA) A frustrating process that can take months or even years gets whittled down to just hours under Sacramento Superior Court's One Day Divorce Program, which is still in its pilot stage.

The program helps cooperating couples or people whose spouses have not responded.

After the initial filing and serving of the petition, people who can't afford representation get help from volunteers to finish their paperwork and get relief granted in just one day.

"We are pulling folks who are at the bottom, who don't have any help, who don't have any representative assistance," said Judge James Mize, who came up with the idea three years ago.
