RENO (AP) - The defense has rested in the trial of a Vagos motorcycle club member charged with killing a Hells Angels chapter president in a shootout at a Nevada casino.
Ernesto Gonzalez is charged with murder in the death of Jeffrey "Jethro" Pettigrew, a Hells Angels San Jose chapter president, during a brawl at a Sparks casino on Sept. 23, 2011.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Gonzalez cried on the stand Monday as he recounted events leading up to the shooting. His attorneys claim Gonzalez fired in self-defense and to save another Vagos member.
Prosecutors allege Pettigrew was the target of a planned hit ordered by Vagos leaders and that Gonzalez agreed to carry it out.
Prosecutors are expected to call a rebuttal witness Tuesday.
